Frame vs. the world
Why do I so strongly prefer to work in FrameMaker, rather than, for
example, Word? This is a FAQ which others have already
answered
more articulately than I can.
I have experience with MIF,
SGML, TeX,
HTML,
and a number of other formats. There frequently is occasion to translate
between these. Among the approaches I favor:
- frameworks: tool sets that facilitate filtering, but require
considerable coding:
- ?'s DTD-based gf
[caution: slow link] filtering system. Gerald Oskoboiny has
made available
before
and
after
illustrations of how well this can work.
- There are several [show references]
Perl and
Tcl and
Python
parsers of
HTML,
which can
more or less easily be adapted to generate MIF.
- MifMucker
- Ed van Leeuwen maintains a large document on the single subject
of
Frame
filters. These are its highlights for
me:
