Gil makes quite clear which allegations are original to him and which he is merely passing on. Interestingly, in WA, defamation has quite different legal status than in the US. I find the development of these kinds of proceedings in different parts of the english speaking world quite interesting. I must follow my legal advice on how properly to proceed in this particular legal enviornmnet. I am quite sure you can appreciate that! Regarding the originators of rumours and false statement not original to Gil, of course we are moving on these matters as well. In fact, I have never seen Gil as a *major* perpetrator, but he must still be held accountable for his deeds (here, I must note certain communications made to aboriginal people up North which are THE reason for even moving against this in the first place. While the net stuff is part of what is being decided here, other issues are involved. As you might or might not know, having good relationships, unencumbered with rumours of being in ANY sense anti-aboriginal is quite ESSENTIAL to field work (not to mention ETHICS!!)! All in all, GIls statements on the net gain their importance in another, much larger, and far more significant context. That is irrelevant to the net, and of course, is not, and will not be discussed there. In fact, as you might recall during the thread on "who is rindos suing?," I really have no interest in dragging him through the mud. That does not mean, however, that I can or will sit back and just take it all without response. Sheesh!! It does drive me a bit crazy at times.... back in the early 80's I was one of the few yanks who took a strong position on the events leading up to the WAC and am one of the founding memebers. I am more used to be accused of being some sort of rabid loonie on issues like reburial and repatriation of materials than having to defend myself against accusations of the absolute converse of these positions! Dave who has to take this all in the proper order which takes a LOT of time!!
